Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (NIV) I am a Christian a Husband, a Father, and of course a Marathon runner. What more could anyone ask?

lazy, lazy, LAZY!!! Well maybe

Thats me, I have not been running since my last post. Now don't get me wrong I do stuff the usual routine consist of to places work and home. I will being with work

If we don't go to the gym ( yes people I have a job that pays me to go the gym) on that note I feel you sould be happy that firefighters go to the gym. But everyday it is not possible so if we don't I do 300 pushups not all at once but throughout the day. At home I hit the gym and usually pretty hard ther are of course lazy days but I am still there. But running has not been happening although i do pretty invloved leg workouts. I just really hate running in the cold, I don;t know why I just do. Super hot days no problem the cold just sucks.

I wil get back with the program but not tomorrow I have to deliver Christmas presents. Friday for sure....... Sunday For sure.

Running scared

So I took off yesterday about a quarter of the way through my five mile loop, I ran later in the day because I hate running in the cold. So realized holy crap it's Wednesday the kids get out early should I turn around. Hell no I can make it. Well first I was so wasted I did not run today second a shattered all my pr's and I made it. But oh my gosh I was freaking wasted nearly puked running much faster than my abilty. So that was it. I did have this stupied idea that maybe I should try that once a week or so just for some good speed work prob not. So another story as most of you know I have a family friend who is a major ultra runner she ran badwater last year and just recently ran another 100 miler in 22 hours. Well they have been trying to get me and her boyfriend together for a while. You have so much in common they all say. Well we met let just just say he will be running his 13th western states ultra marathon plus countless others next year so ya I liked him hell I practially bowed. On top of that he is a great guy.

I have also been asked to crew for badwater again hopefully this year I can make it.

Ok folks or folk

Back into it

Two runs in one day. 1 word AWESOME. nothing real far one 3 miles with hill work then later that evening a fast 5 miler. I ahve to admit this is not the first time I ahd done this and the last time it led to Achilles tendinitis, or at least help it along. Well I don't care I need to run and I will. needless to say I am back out in full force. I wish I had more to say but this is a running blog and and that was all the running I have done in the past day. So more tomorrow.

Some days you just don't have it

So I ran today, if you want to call it that. By far the worst run I have ever had and I don't know why. There was just nothing there we are talking about maybe 3 miles. I have no no excuse and no reason. I ate good, not much sleep but I never get much sleep. I am tired though. oh well back at it on Sun. I thought about taking a day off the I said no breaks. So expect another post on Sun. I do have to work until 1 but i should get in an afternoon run.

Got the call

I was just informed if there is no change, after the funeral on Thurs I am going here

Sorry

Been busy, sorry for the lag. More updates soon. I have helping plan a funeral. I have been informed that I will be taking my Captain for his final ride. So there is alot involved. If you have never seen a full firefighter funeral they are quite impressive. I may post some pics when all is done.

For the blog itself , I have been running pretty regular more on that later

My friend

My Freind Charlie died this morning. He was my Engine Captain. I was his Engineer. In the Fire service the bond between firefighters is special and only stronger between a Captain and his Engineer He will be missed more than he will ever know. "See you tomorrow" has a new meaning to me.

Oh ya it's on

I am truly getting back to form. A great 5 five miles this morn in under 50 minutes as well. Legs felt great breathing was great weather was great. I wisdh they all could be like that. I think we go for 10 On Tues.

So the Chicago marathon had to be stopped. Appearantly it was 87 degrees and with the humidity it felt like 90. You bunch of weiners welcome to my world. In the sumer time I have to get out before 6 am so I can be back before it reaches 115. Some days I can't get out that early so guess what I suck it up and run when it is 115. Just so you know that is 115 in at least 40 to 50% humidity so don't try to play the humidity card with me. I guess you just have to get used to it and as Nike keeps saying "Just do it"

Motivation from the best source

Remember that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize. You also must run in such a way that you will win. All athletes practice self-control. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I am not like a boxer who misses his punches. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what I should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27 NLT

In case you were wondering

The boys won last night, 14 to 50 so it was indeed quite clear who the better team was. My sondid get to see a few of his old friends and was happy to "lay them out" son #2 has his game tomorrow it's an away game and 1 1/2 hours away so we will be traveling.

teh legs are healing up great, I may go for a short 1 or 2 mile son Monday and see how we feel. Stretch people Stretch. I have found out the hard way it it is important.

It has come to this

In all runners lives there comes the time when you just go to hard, to far, or to fast. Well I did it and now I am hurt and no running for at least a week but more than likely 2. I thought at first I had just run of the mill shin splints. As it turns out I have Achilles Tendinitis. To much to soon and to much hill and stair/bleachers work. So here I sit. The pain actually started just before Disney but I figured screw it. ( if I knew then I would get his I still would have run it) So it seems that I may sit out the Police and Fire Games Half marathon as it is in 2 weeks I will have no training time. I am OK with it though, the Marathon is the important race and I would rather sit here for a bit to insure I can do that. I will heal I and I will keep you both up to date. On a good note My son is starting tomorrow against his old school his thoughts on that are "hopefully I came make someone bleed" so apparently there is no love lost between him and his old coach. That story is pretty interesting, Long story short he informed the coach he could not attend Football Camp because he had a commitment (that commitment was crewing for a friend at Badwater) and he said "what about your commitment to this team" which really pissed my son off. I have to say it pissed me off to. You see we are a football family and we live in the desert he was out pretty much all summer twice twice a day at football practice and he questioned his loyalty. Now that was at a private school. He soon decided he wanted to go back to the public school. He claimed the educational opportunities are better he is in accelerated everything except world history which is AP . But I believe the old coach was the last straw. But he is happy.

OK that is it for today I will keep you up to date on the healing and on the first runs when they happen.

Quotes

I think this sums it up for alot of us

Bravo Kristin Armstong

I don't train because I want to be able to do things (run a faster 5K, beat my marathon PR, make someone eat my dust on a trail...though those things aren't bad....). I train because I want to be someone better than I would be if I didn't train. If someone I love is faltering, I want to be the kind of woman who can haul some ass; I want to be first on the scene. I want to be strong enough to carry some of his/her burden along with my own. I want to have a clear head and a clear heart, so if I am asked for advice I can offer wisdom instead of mere opinion. If my big opportunity arises to serve, I want to be ready. If it takes more out of me than I anticipated, I want to know something about endurance. If the terrain suddenly changes, I want to be steady. If someone I love looks at me with eyes full of fear, terrified that they won't be able to finish whatever happens to lie ahead of them, I want to look at them, wordless, with unblinking eyes that assure them that there is no way that they won't.

That, right there, is why I run. In case you were wondering.

Why do you run?- Kristin Armstong

Im back

Disneyland was fun, this race always is. Running through the parks and through Angel stadium is prett cool. As for the race we got there at 5:15 am, they wanted us there at 4:30 but that was not going to happen. Parking for this race sucks, the only real place to park is the Disney parking srtucture and they charge you the average Disney daily rate of 11 dollars so keep that in mind. If you get a hotle close enough you can walk otherwise parking is non existent. It was unseasonably hot in Anaheim 80 degrees at the start 6 am and into the mid 90s by the time we finished. We got to the staging area visited the Porta johns for the pre race deposit and I will report everything came out smooth. We got into what we thought was our corral only to find we we were not only in the wrong spot we were way in the wrong spot as in the very last group to start. No I have no problems with walkers on these races, I am glad to see anyone doing any thing to acheive fitness but people please get to one side. I came up onto countless groups of walkers who would group together start talking and take up and entire path. I am glad to see you there but please be aware there are people who like to run. Now This is a fun race course, it goes through Disneyland, California Adventure, and Downtown Disney. You also get to run on the Angels baseball field and see yourself on the big screen pretty cool. In the end I did not get the time but I did beat last years time so that is something.

Next is the Police and Fire games half in Mesa AZ

the PF Changs Marathon in Jan, So the training post will continue I plan on being back on the road tomorrow so the beating will continue.

Long time no post

I am sorry to my reader for not posting, I am sure you have been waiting with high anticipation. So what has been going on. Well the runs have been OK, bad, and great. I attempted 13 miles and completely bonked around 7. Just goes to show not eating correctly will reap havoc on you running schedule. The next day off I completed the 13 miles plus. Eat to run people eat to run.
The Ipod caused it's usual headache, the Ipod Nike trainer just quit one day, then just quit again the next day. have noticed that if I pause my workout it reeks all kind of havoc on it from freeze ups to full on shut downs. So now I no longer pause my workouts. Now as for this Nike Ipod trainer while I do love this thing it is not the best one out their as a matter of fact is is not accurate at all. But it will give you a good judge of time and pace all over your head phones with the push of a button. On that note it has been the cause of most of my headaches. I guess I just love punishment that must be why I run hmmmm. Well next Monday is the Disneyland Half Marathon I am ready and a bit nervous, I ran this race last year and loved it. It was my first

half marathon and a great first. The race starts through the parks you get to run through the back areas of the park and see somethings you would otherwise never get to see. The rest is through Anaheim and you get to run on the Angels baseball field pretty cool. Then you end through the parks again. Alot of fun. So I will be posting a complete review of this race as soon as I get back. Until then

Wanna laugh

Go read some blogs these people are the biggest whiners of the face of the planet, Read them OOOOh I'm depressed, Oh My spouse won't have sex with me so I am going to cheat, Oh I'm fat, Fucking waaaaaah. Man up you bunch of bitches (or woman up as the case may) be Everyone of you has an excuse. The best part is as I have written about before is there are so many that will say it is OK. You can write about anything, debauchery, hedonism, being fat, being sick, being hooked on drugs or alcohol. and there is always someone to say oh that's OK it's not your fault. Everything is someone Else's fault, or societies fault. Well now you are gonna hear from me.

1. It is your fault. If your fat exercise and diet, if your depressed get pills, exercise get over it.
you can change it if you just would quit making up excuses.

2. Hooked on something easy answer quit. NO shut up it is not a disease, cancer is a disease,
you have an addiction so quit. if you really do not want to drink then don't if you want
to quit drugs quit. Don't come to me with your bullshit either. I quit smoking and chewing. I
am not saying it is easy because it is not but it is possible if you just will. I am sure all those
with cancer would love to "quit" cancer.

3. Pro Choice. I believe in Pro choice but it is a bit different the only choice you have is rather or
you chose to do it so you chose to get pregnant that was your choice now raise your child. OK
OK I will say in extreme cases those of rape incest or actual possibility of death to the mother
abortion be allowed but lets go over those rape and incest first if the these were the only
reasons for abortion the numbers would drop 99.9% and everyone knows it. Now for the
mother having the possibility of dying by being pregnant. Some one would have to explain to
me the chances of this and the reasons not is this day and age. But if you must discuss this
how many mothers or fathers out there would not die right now for there children. If you
cannot yes to this then you do not deserve to be a parent anyway. There is an old saying that
goes something like this "If you don't have anything Worth dying for, what do you really have
living for" remember it.

Now I know I have gotten off the true nature of this blog "running" well sorry but I needed to vent.

But if you must know I got in an awesome 5.5 miles last night during one of the boys football practices a great run with an average 8.5 miles pace

OK all now in the nature of this particular post

Fuck off

Crapple again

Another frozen Ipod. Luckily this time I was able to unfreeze and not lose all my music but I did lose all my workout data and I was about 3/4 done and had a pretty good hill coming up. OS I needed the music. I am still pretty pissed about the workout data a good 5 miles that will not be on the nike website. At least I had the music and I finished pretty strong. Oh well.

Nothing new going on boys are of course in football and at practice as we speak. my wife is jogging by the higg school so she can pick them up. Soooooo that is about it. I have a few days off of work and plan on hitting the road hard in prep for D-land half in 3 weeks. I am still confident on the sub 2 hour but we will see.

Funny how things work out

Well no run today at least not yet. They day srtarted pretty early. I got home from work around 8 had to take oldest son to get football pads from school, Then had to pick up his laptop from school, then had to take him to other school (he may be changing high schools the catholic private school is really starting to piss me off) then home to mow grass and now have to get dog to vet at 3 only to come home to take youngest meeting foe pop warner, Then he starts practice tomorrow. Things will be crazy but this is the life I have chosen. In the mean time I hope to get in an evening run which I hate.

be careful out there everyone I will let you know how the run went or if the run went. Shit I have to half marathons and a marathon coming very soon I better get with the program.

Stupid Crapple

So good news and bad news. Seven miles yesterday, The run pretty much sucked at the start. You know how it is just as soon as you start the legs feel heavy nothing is quite working right and you know this will not be fun. It all started with the stupid camel pack leaking, which means pretty much the whole way my back is getting soaked and I keep feeling drips on my legs. It was really pissing me off. I believe I found the leak but I promise if it was not 105 degrees the camel pack would have gone in the trash that day. One good thing happened I found my nike/ipod thing. Now for those of you who do not know what these are, it is a pedometer that goes with your Ipod, it will tell you your pace how far you have gone how much you have and your time. You can then go to the Nike website and download all your info look at you run see where you slowed down sped up and so on it will keep all your miles logged pretty cool thing. The downfall is it a apple. and you have to use a Ipod Nano with it. So as I was saying I found my Ipod thing, it was the little thing that goes onto your shoe (Nike makes some special shoes for them but you don't have to use them) Well I kept it between my laces and it fell out. I searched that area three or four times never found it, then yesterday I saw something orange on the ground and found it I could not believe and guess what it still works WOW!. So now I have 2. Now I am finishing up this run wet back and sticky legs from the stupid camel pack still leaking and my stupid Ipod freezes which means a few things first half a mile left I'm wasted pissed and now no music plus no record of my run (I love to look at them) Then when resetting it I lost all my music ( luckily I had it all backed up) well it basically it turned a shitty run into an even shittier end. I am still happy I did it though. Tomorrow we will only go 5 and some 30/30s I have to get 2 boys into for sports physicals, get pads issued for one and get the other one to a meeting which ends at 7 but I need to pick up the other one from practice at 6:30. Oh well this is parenthood it will all work out..... I hope

On the road again

Ok, Finally got in some miles yesterday, only 4 but it beats the shit out of nothing. I did not mention before the up coming events. In Sept in have the Disneyland Half Marathon. I ran this last year and had alot of fun great course through the parks and into Anaheim even on the the field and the Angels ballpark. Next is the Western States Police and Fire Games Half Marathon in Oct. We then take a break for a few months to prepare for PF Changs Jan. So That should be interesting. Then June of 08 the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon. So it will be busy for a while, But a good busy. Tomorrow I will head out again more prep but I love doing it.

The family is all back together. My wife and son returned from badwater crewing for a freind and said they loved it. I plan on going next year to crew and pace. Just to be part of such an event is really an honor. The boys start football next week so tomorrow I have go by my youngest his cleats and a few other odds and ends. I do worry about both boys playing in the heat but they will be ok.

Ok more tomorrow. be safe out there

Once a again

Why am I here?
First to log my training for a marathon I am running, I will be logging miles, data and generally how my runs go. Once that is done I will be preparing for another marathon and a Biatholon. So prepare for that.
I will go over the daily family deals including raising 2 teenagers a boy and a girl. and how that deal with there 11 year old brother. Detailing my youngest sons first year in Pop Warner and My oldest first year in High School Football. My attempts to have a fourth child and the story behind that. Lastly anything I feel like saying.

So here we go. While researching blogs I have found that there are some real freaks out there. People who cheat on there spouses and that hords who come along and tell them it is ok. The deviants can always find someone who will tell them it is ok. Freaks!
I could show you a few one of them even turned off there comments because of me, she appearantly did not like me telling here she was wrong. Now look I am actually a very religous person. But I do not believe you have to be a believer to know that cheating is wrong, sexually depravity is wrong. Abortion is wrong. No we cannot do what ever we like, there are reprocutions for our actions. I do not think I have to explain that. We all know it we just choose to ignore it. I found many more freaks and freaky things on blogger alone but they are post for another day.

Now for the running news, well what a great day to start a blog with the intent on blogging and talking about daily runs when you don't run that day. My excuse? Well, it's raining. For the second morning in a row (weird for us) so nothing today. Hopefully tomorrow we will be back on the road. Football practice starts on Tues for both boys so Stand by for that.

So with that

Out
