Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (NIV) I am a Christian a Husband, a Father, and of course a Marathon runner. What more could anyone ask?

Motivation from the best source

Remember that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize. You also must run in such a way that you will win. All athletes practice self-control. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I am not like a boxer who misses his punches. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what I should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

The boys won last night, 14 to 50 so it was indeed quite clear who the better team was. My sondid get to see a few of his old friends and was happy to "lay them out" son #2 has his game tomorrow it's an away game and 1 1/2 hours away so we will be traveling.

teh legs are healing up great, I may go for a short 1 or 2 mile son Monday and see how we feel. Stretch people Stretch. I have found out the hard way it it is important.

It has come to this

In all runners lives there comes the time when you just go to hard, to far, or to fast. Well I did it and now I am hurt and no running for at least a week but more than likely 2. I thought at first I had just run of the mill shin splints. As it turns out I have Achilles Tendinitis. To much to soon and to much hill and stair/bleachers work. So here I sit. The pain actually started just before Disney but I figured screw it. ( if I knew then I would get his I still would have run it) So it seems that I may sit out the Police and Fire Games Half marathon as it is in 2 weeks I will have no training time. I am OK with it though, the Marathon is the important race and I would rather sit here for a bit to insure I can do that. I will heal I and I will keep you both up to date. On a good note My son is starting tomorrow against his old school his thoughts on that are "hopefully I came make someone bleed" so apparently there is no love lost between him and his old coach. That story is pretty interesting, Long story short he informed the coach he could not attend Football Camp because he had a commitment (that commitment was crewing for a friend at Badwater) and he said "what about your commitment to this team" which really pissed my son off. I have to say it pissed me off to. You see we are a football family and we live in the desert he was out pretty much all summer twice twice a day at football practice and he questioned his loyalty. Now that was at a private school. He soon decided he wanted to go back to the public school. He claimed the educational opportunities are better he is in accelerated everything except world history which is AP . But I believe the old coach was the last straw. But he is happy.

OK that is it for today I will keep you up to date on the healing and on the first runs when they happen.

Quotes

I think this sums it up for alot of us

Bravo Kristin Armstong

I don't train because I want to be able to do things (run a faster 5K, beat my marathon PR, make someone eat my dust on a trail...though those things aren't bad....). I train because I want to be someone better than I would be if I didn't train. If someone I love is faltering, I want to be the kind of woman who can haul some ass; I want to be first on the scene. I want to be strong enough to carry some of his/her burden along with my own. I want to have a clear head and a clear heart, so if I am asked for advice I can offer wisdom instead of mere opinion. If my big opportunity arises to serve, I want to be ready. If it takes more out of me than I anticipated, I want to know something about endurance. If the terrain suddenly changes, I want to be steady. If someone I love looks at me with eyes full of fear, terrified that they won't be able to finish whatever happens to lie ahead of them, I want to look at them, wordless, with unblinking eyes that assure them that there is no way that they won't.

That, right there, is why I run. In case you were wondering.

Why do you run?- Kristin Armstong

Im back

Disneyland was fun, this race always is. Running through the parks and through Angel stadium is prett cool. As for the race we got there at 5:15 am, they wanted us there at 4:30 but that was not going to happen. Parking for this race sucks, the only real place to park is the Disney parking srtucture and they charge you the average Disney daily rate of 11 dollars so keep that in mind. If you get a hotle close enough you can walk otherwise parking is non existent. It was unseasonably hot in Anaheim 80 degrees at the start 6 am and into the mid 90s by the time we finished. We got to the staging area visited the Porta johns for the pre race deposit and I will report everything came out smooth. We got into what we thought was our corral only to find we we were not only in the wrong spot we were way in the wrong spot as in the very last group to start. No I have no problems with walkers on these races, I am glad to see anyone doing any thing to acheive fitness but people please get to one side. I came up onto countless groups of walkers who would group together start talking and take up and entire path. I am glad to see you there but please be aware there are people who like to run. Now This is a fun race course, it goes through Disneyland, California Adventure, and Downtown Disney. You also get to run on the Angels baseball field and see yourself on the big screen pretty cool. In the end I did not get the time but I did beat last years time so that is something.

Next is the Police and Fire games half in Mesa AZ

the PF Changs Marathon in Jan, So the training post will continue I plan on being back on the road tomorrow so the beating will continue.
